Inspector Montalbano, Sicily’s Favorite Detective

For fans of the Inspector Montalbano series you have landed at the right place. Ragusa, Punta Secca, Marina di Ragusa, Scicli and Modica are all featured in episodes of this fascinating Sicilian detective drama. It is very different from American cop shows in that you see a softer side of our hero Commissario Salvo Montalbano, played by Luca Zingaretti, lead inspector for the Vigata police force. During the opening of each show you will see sweeping views of Montelusa, Vigata, Marinella, the Inspector's house on the beach as well as the signature lighthouse at Punta Secca.

You can visit the places used in the series either on your own our with serveral of the local tour guides. They can show you around whichever destination you choose from your favorite episodes as well as give you a bit of "local knowledge" about the show and its stars. Enjoy a day exploring the different locations and then finish up at one of the wonderful local restaurants.

Sadly, the author of the Montalbano novels has recently passed away at the age of 93. Among the first to pay tribute was actor Luca Zingaretti, who plays the title role in Inspector Montalbano.

“In the end you caught me off guard and left us,” he wrote in an emotional post on Instagram. “Despite the increasingly tragic news, I hoped until the last that you would open your eyes and address us with one of your sentences, for all to listen to and conserve …. You have now departed and left me with an emptiness that can’t be filled. But I know that each time I say, even alone, in my head, that ‘I am Montalbano!’ then you will have left smiling, perhaps smoking a cigarette and winking at me, as a sign of understanding, like the last time we met in Siracusa. Farewell maestro and friend. Rest in peace.”
